My wife accidently downloaded playthruplayer.exe and now I get a constant barrage of pop up ads. It's driving me crazy. I've tried uninstalling but there must be something in the program that prevents you from doing so.

Can anyone help?
Thanks

Did you try penicillin?

Actually there is probably something in your browser configuration settings that is still there. Try Googling it. I've done the same thing before.

Safest way to clear viruses is with a bootable rescue program. Kapersky's is pretty good. They boot linux from a cd or flash drive so your virus won't be able to interfere with your scan. Once you finish that scan its probably easier to just uninstall and reinstall your web browser to reset any settings that may have been messed up. If you aren't backing your bookmarks/favorites to the cloud don't forget to export them before you reinstall though.

In the past, Hitman Pro has worked for me.

One of the worst viruses I received was from streaming a Purdue football game.......Oh the irony!

I'd try the free version of Malwarbytes

and/or

Spybot: Search & Destroy
Unless they made radical changes, I would highly not recommend Spybot. It ends up giving as many pop ups as any of the programs you are removing. They are harmless but equally annoying.

Thing that works best for me, and I do this for a living, is to remove the program and before you reboot, then go into system restore and pick a date prior to your install of the offending program.
