Media analysists from both side have pointed out this trait of modern journos. So, CBS will print "sources say X". Then it gets picked on by the NYT who will run it by an "analyst" and give it the green light for their journos to write a piece*. Then CNN and Twitter news grabs it. There is no journalism. They are simply reporting on what X reported on and not doing any legwork or verification, BUT adding commentary.

*Piece. It isn't journalism anymore, it is activism. Journos don't report, they include thin facts with heavy commentary. Thus the change in language to piece.
