An Analytical look at Purdue’s 0-3 start from SB Nation’s Ryan Connors

I think it's a fair point that if Purdue would have started 3-0 with the same aggregate margin of 8 points against the same three teams, we'd all probably be wondering (maybe privately) how good the team really is. Of course, we'd also be half way to bowl eligibility.

To the point in the last paragraph about the possibility that a down year might actually help Purdue in the long run because it will make Brohm less of a national commodity, at least in the near future:

maybe, but you also have to wonder what it will do to the momentum he seems to be building in recruiting.

Good players who want to be in a place where things are done right will notice more than the wins and losses. If Purdue didn't have the money backing the program (similar to Tiller's early years), this would potentially be devastating. However, the backing from the AD, fans, and the university makes a huge difference.
