Talked to my parents yesterday. They brought up COVID and vaccination as they have been worried to death that my nieces (healthy highschoolers) hadn't gotten their shots and was thrilled they finally did.

I said at this point, I wouldn't bother as Omicron is really nothing to them and the vaccination has shown to be really ineffective against that. Them, "But national news said it it with the booster is highly effective against it and national news isn't allowed to lie to people."

It's amazing how little the older generation wants to think on their own. Especially with everything that has gone on to show you should have some doubt in what is said. Oh well.

LOL Probably just your family.
IMO not the older folks who let the media think for them. A young and millenial thing imo....they haven't learned about the media yet.....and are attatched to their media master 24/7 via their phones.

Great point. Our folks grew up watching the nightly news on 3 networks from trusted, well respected anchors. That all changed when the main networks started actively promoting the democrat party. Unfortunately, our parents still put faith in what these networks were spouting and still believe them to be telling the truth.

Yes, and my parents still just have an antenna and the three networks.

I avoid the topics with them because I know what I am going to get back. They believe what they hear on the news, I've told them I can provide them all kinds of data and information to dispute the points if they want, they are not interested because the guy on the news only tells them truth, no need to argue it. Really kind of disappointing for an intelligent enough person to be basically an engineer despite never going to college, just basic electronics through the military (Vietnam draftie)

Lots of poorly informed generalizations in this thread. I'm 69 and damned few of my peers believe or trust the media for the truth. We prefer to find our own. Everybody thinks their parents are poorly informed, lazy gullible fools until all of a sudden we are those parents.

My folks are 80, both college grads, one a PhD. They mainly watch CNN and one of the nightly news networks.
They're not lazy, or unintelligent, but they've been getting one side of the story for so long, and that's all they get which then influences their view and perspective.

My parents are around 80. They completely trust their NBC nightly news. I never thought of them as gullible, but all I can do is shrug on this stuff. In recent years I've learned it's pointless to try and talk politics or COVID with them as they believe what ever NBC tells them, so I avoid the subjects unless they bring it up. Say my peace and try to move on because they really don't want to hear my opinion.

I actually feel bad talking politics with my mom. She's an 'anyone but Trump' voter but only because she doesn't like him as a person.

Just assume the MSM is incorrect unless/until proven otherwise.

How true. It is split along conservative and liberal lines and is not that related to age.
