Football practice Friday the 13th

Just thinking about this, “I wonder how many other Big Ten teams allow spectators at ANY practice?” For that matter, how many college teams allow spectators? That said, this was the last Purdue practice for any spectators.

Watched the DE’s and DT’s blocking on sleds. We seem to have a large number of young players (7 to 8 are FR or SO). Many in the 260 to 280 range. With lifting and diet, we could have that area covered pretty well in the future.

Thought it might be interesting to simply chart the plays, so

7 on 7

Jack to Bell – caught

Jack to Piferi – caught

Jack to Mershawn – caught

Jack to Yaseen – caught

Burton to Miller – nope

Burton to Wright – caught

Burton to Payne – caught

Burton to Bilodeau – break up by Saunders in right corner of endzone

Burton to Payne – caught - TD

Aidan to Bell – caught from a busted play (doubt if in game conditions that he has 8 seconds to find a receiver)

Aidan to Downing – caught – outlet flare pass

Aidan to Jackson – caught – outlet cause no one was open

Aidan to Milton – nice pass, just off fingertips

Aidan to Childers – caught – TD

11 on 11 (three quarter speed)

Jack hands to Cross

Jack to Zander – complete

Aiden to Jackson – complete

Aiden hands to Downing – LT

Aiden hands to Cross – LT

Aiden hands to Downing – RG

Aiden to Broc – complete

Burton hands to Zander – C

Burton hands to Cross – sweep left

Burton hands to Downing – RG

Alaimo sweep right

Alaimo to Zander – left flare

KO returns

#8

#25 (uh – oh – caught like an outfielder, not a kick returner)

#28

#8

#25 dropped but recovered

#28

#8 dropped but recovered

Field beginning to show signs of wear. Very humid but mostly overcast. Perhaps a hundred spectators were in attendance. No kids present (they probably were in school).

Finished by watching the OL work against each other, covering various scenarios. Dale Williams seems to have pretty good rapport with these guys. Hasn’t he been here forever?

Awesome report.

And, if I'm going to do this right, I think we need to absolutely excoriate the secondary for allowing soooooooooooooooo many completions.... (am I doing this right?!) 😎

Thanks, but I didn't want him to know. He got a bit mad at me last time I mentioned his teeth, even though of course my intent is purely to help him as a fellow Boiler.
Dude, between his teeth, and your smoking/drug/hooker habits (referencing your pic), we've got some work to do.

I, of course, am without fault or blemish... 🤣

Thanks for all the daily practice reports you post.

Good stuff. In your totally amateur view from what you've seen, can you list top 3 QB's and top 3 receivers?

Each has advantages/disadvantages. Jack could escape and run better than Aidan, but Austin would be best runner of all of them. I think Alaimo has a little more zip on his throws. Aidan makes very good decisions. There isn't much separation among all four. I'd love to see the charts on all four!

Aidan = Jack, slightly better overall than Austin = Alaimo

David Milton = Mershawn = Yaseen = Broc = TJ Any of the 5 (IMO) could play for anybody

Without a D line, a QB can pretty much complete every pass, especially if they are completing the outlet, or safety valve. I alluded to that on the pass that David caught.

However, it's always a

"Hey we scored a really nice TD there . . . . .

. . . . . . . um, against our defense."

Sure was nice to hear CJB heap a little praise on the kickers after Thursday’s practice for a change.

Thanks Dandy! My love of "escape" QB's dimmed considerably with either Hance or Kirsch, one of them had a great set of legs but they couldn't use the time to make the throw or the yards. And IMHO, a running QB is usually at some point an injured QB (Tim Tebow not withstanding). I'll take the smart guy who sees the field and has a line that can give him that extra second to find the best receiver.

Loved watch Dale Williams at FAU under Howard. Left when Howard left and then went to Western Kentucky and came with Brohm

Dale gets a lot of crap here for only having maybe 4 total B1G caliber OL his first 3 years on campus. He also has experienced some rather bad luck with 5 (I think) recruits from years 1 and 2 either never stepping campus because they decided to retire from football or retired from football after showing up. Most of those guys weren't very good but they would be 4th and 5th year guys to fill holes when needed.

Yeah we’re not a lot of BIG caliber o linemen when he arrived. It is really hard to recruit o linemen. Then there is a lot that goes into coaching them. That is why it is hard for them to get on the field early.
