All the attention that Purdue is getting is nice and all and well deserved, but when we weren't getting the attention it was like "who cares about these polls" and "how we do in March / April is what really matter".

Guess what happened to everyone...All everyone is talking about NOW is the rankings & seedings...

Let's enjoy this ride, but to me it is still what we end up doing in March & April is what REALLY matters. Now let's go do it, make this year where we are finally be able to break through and shut those IU motherlovers up. BTFU..

What would they say then , all we would hear about is how they have 5 ancient antique dusty ones. Oh it would be glorious

Ranking always matters since the birth of the earth. People just defend things to their advantage and fail to realize the truth.

Absolutely - at the end of the day, it's only Jan. 15. You always hear about teams "peaking early".....last week I brought up rebounding. You don't know how much better we can actually get in the season on rebounding.

That being said, we face two teams this week that we should take care of business. But all games we face challenges no matter the opponent.

The Wisconsin game we face one of the best centers in the country, so it'll be interesting to see how Haas/Haarms play. Some games where our outside shots weren't falling - we could go in and pound it inside (see Northwestern). That won't be an easy fallback option if we are cold. Also, this game I think has more of a "trapping" aspect than others. It's at home which can lessen urgency/focus and it's against a team we don't necessarily have a "bad" history against - i.e. "redemption" against Michigan and Minnesota.

Against Minnesota, we obviously blew them out of the water, but we were somewhat thankful their shooting was so poor. We had a pretty sloppy start with some bad shot selection (we were jacking jumpers and not even trying to go inside with Haas). We let them back in it towards the end of the first half with some sloppy play/bad shot selection as well. This is obviously pretty nitpicky as Minnesota never had more than a 1 point lead at the beginning I believe and the smallest lead late in the first/early second was 10 I believe. But against a good team, that could be problematic.

This season, Purdue has done a pretty good job of not getting behind early - our starts have been good (WKU we were behind basically the whole game). Against Tennessee, we held a 5-9 point lead for most of the first half. The last 5 minutes of the half, however, we gave up a 9 point lead and were tied at half.

The Michigan game was very similar. We had a 10 point lead with 5 minutes left, let it get down to 2 with 2 minutes left. We added a bit of cushion again, but similar in giving up a lead in that last 5 minutes. We obviously did it against Minnesota too.

Again, somewhat nitpicky stuff - but still valid concerns that against a very good team, could be a significant issue.

It’s a relative measure at the moment and it’s not always accurate but it is a decent measure. It’s importance to me is that being ranked high now helps keep that ranking high later when it impacts seeding. I don’t think many teams win titles from the 4 line. As BG74 (I think) said, don’t forget to enjoy the journey.

Have never been a fan of the AP poll and even the coaches poll. I think both have some inherent bias. I also think the coaches and the media aren't overly familiar with teams beyond the big names like Duke and Ky. Purdue is a pretty good example of this in my opinion. I like some of the polls that actually use objective parameters rather than subjective parameters. Ken Pom is one I follow.
All that being said, it boils down to just one thing.....win. If you keep winning you eventually get to where you want to be.

Can someone please give me the cliffs notes version of this novel?

The interesting thing this season is the early B1G Tournament, which wraps March 4. NCAA Section Sunday is the following week, and the first round games are March 15/16.

I think it might help this team to have some rest pre-NCAA.
