Illinois beat Northwestern by 30 ( at Illinois). Is Illinois somehow better without Shannon or is Northwestern showing who they really are except when playing Purdue at home?

Illinois is playing together well and they bought in to whatever coach is guiding them. They also have talent. We need to be super loud Friday.
Northwestern is still hungover after beating us. would be curious to see their shooting stats post beating us. Bigger question, are they a tourney team?
As for Illinois, they have a versatile lineup where a lot of guys can get down hill and score at the rim. We are one of her best defenses in stopping that and making you beat us from outside. Should be a good matchup.

I’m not sure yet but Domask is able to be the main focus on offense now. With TSJ, Domask had a lot of off nights but U if I was fine because of TSJ. I would assume they can’t afford to have Domask have those 2-9/2-7/4-12 games and win games vs good teams. But we will see how they do going forward!
And northwestern…man they disappoint me. Show up for us and have the most perfect game of their season and then just disappear after.

yeah, but it isn't much if he says Lance is a good defender on the ball and off. It won't help to say lance can get to the basket, has another gear in transition and can knock down the three. Lance is not an early option for Purdue on offense like Domask may be and knowing the guy is a good defender only says Matt thinks one of the top two players he wants to control will be who Lance is defending. Purdue gains more knowledge than Illinois IMO
Maybe so, but they played together at SIU for 4 years and last year Lance and him were the main go to guys on offense…I’d still think he’d know Lance tendencies just as much as Lance would know his from going against each other in practice. But either way, hope Lance is all over him on defense and is able to stay outta foul trouble!
All teams are vulnerable when good players have off games.....even Purdue.

Illinois isn’t better without Shannon, no doubt that they looked good last night, in the long run they need him back. Also, SIU would have been damn good if those two returned to the Saluki’s.
This. It’s cool how the guys have rallied since the suspension, but TSJ is an All American … any lineup in the nation makes room for him, and we absolutely are not better without him. I obviously hope he comes back by next month if this allegation is as flimsy and sketchy as has been reported online, but all I can do now is be impressed with the way we’ve responded.
Excited for Friday night, but the simple fact is without TSJ we are playing with house money and it’d be a monumental upset.
Usually you see a quick bounce, however, eventually things start going downhill, in Illinois’s case I hope he returns if he deserves to. If he raped a women though I hope he goes to jail, we’ll see what comes of it.
From what the AD said, it was inappropriate touching in a bar…his camp says the video just shows them talking….who knows what will come of this and how quick it’ll be.
That was Shannon's initial story he told to the AD in September. He has since been charged with rape, sexual intercourse without consent, and use of force.

Honestly, the case looks shadier the more that comes out. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Illinois stand behind Terrence as innocent until proven guilty. I’m sure opposing fans will crucify us, but a false allegation - as it appears our AD thinks this is - shouldn’t end a kid’s career because the process takes a long time. Frankly, I’ll be proud if we stick up for him IF we truly believe this is a BS allegation to get money. Rumors out of Lawrence are this same woman has made false allegations against KU players in the past. On the flip side, who knows? That’s what sucks … the Illinois AD has to make SOME kind of decision before a court decision, one way or another.
Frankly, though … I wouldn’t be shocked if this doesn’t go to trial and charges are dropped. Not to spam a PU board, but I think Terrence is a good kid and while I initially went from assuming he at least did something wrong to neutral to your generic “innocent until proven guilty” view … this situation stinks to high Heaven.
Either way, even with TSJ we’d be underdogs Friday! Purdue has earned its #1 ranking and then some.
I have read all that too and have definitely learned to not pass any judgement until all facts have been presented.
The game is going to be rockin and IMO, i wish TSJ was able to play because it would have made it an even better game and we could have seen where we were as a team vs a team like U of I. Either way, hope we come out with energy vs a pretty good team like Illinois!
Let's say they know each other the same. Are they going to take away lance's defense? Are they going to take away his ball handling? Lance is not needed on O as much as Domask. Is their best defender going to cover Lance since they cannot control who Lance defends? Both starting previously, I don't know how much Lance defended Domask at SIU. Going further...let's pretend that both Lance and Domask are completely shut down...which team gained the most?

Agreed. There seems to be a major discrepency between what the U of I fans believe and what the prosecutor is pursuing. Law enforcement spent more than 3 months investigating and charged him with a crime that would result in a long mandatory sentence, if convicted.
The same NU team that lost to Chicago State showed up against Illinois. IL has some good players and we certainly need to show up and play well, but I would be shocked if they end up being an elite team without Shannon.
True on NU disappearing after beating us. I don’t know what their identity is exactly.
As for Illinois, they might be better or more balanced without Shannon. They might have been pumped and ready to go with everyone doubting them because of him being gone. Perhaps they revert to the mean tomorrow? I think it stays close and we pull away late to win by 8-10.
I hope for Shannon’s sake he did not sexually assault the woman and I understand how the fan base hopes for the best and wants to believe the rumors swirling around the case in his favor. On the other hand, I would find it strange that prosecutors, after a several month investigation would choose to bring charges in what they knew would be a huge high profile case unless they felt like there was some substance there. It sucks for TSJ and the Illini if there’s nothing there, but I think under the circumstances Illinois is doing the right thing and he should not play until there’s some legal resolution or charges are dropped. Just my opinion.
Some Illini fans mentioned that the group who suspended him had a hearing to make a determination on eligibility. Haven’t seen anything else posted but will be curious if they change course. Granted the guy who said it is also the guy who defends DGL’s mom and her craziness.
I don't see how you lose a guy who was playing like a first team AA and get better. I think folks are overreacting to a sample size of one in a game that IMO will turn out to be fools gold. I could be wrong and I often am, but I'd be surprised if this team remains a top ten team without Shannon.
I hope it was fools gold and they played disinterested Northwestern team. I think the challenge with losing Shannon, for opposing defenses, who is the primary scorer/threat. He was the focus and now you have a few guys who can step in and score.

Agree with this. Unless they somehow reach a quick settlement that results in charges being dropped he's not playing again this year and we won't hear anything in the interim.
Illini also beat FDU by 30 four days before the NW game without TSJ. You should be familiar with FDU.

Completely agree with this. I'd rather play tougher teams, even if it results in more losses. Winning the Big Ten is not the primary goal.
