Coach Painter has been praised by many for his willingness to change his offense based on the talent he has. Pound it inside one year then let Carsen launch at will from deep the next year. Then back to pounding it inside. I agree with them.
What I do not see is any change in defensive philosophy based on talent he has. We obviously do not have a shut down defender and playing more games has not and will not produce one this season. They continue to be exposed defensively by penetration by skilled opponents. It appears that opponents take advantage of the switching defense until they get a mismatch to their advantage.
I am not a coach and am not claiming to have answers but I also have seen too many games where they get exposed because the defense cannot stop penetration and yes “mid range jumpers” several times in a row during crunch time. Kind of a definition of insanity thing by the defense.
Shrewsberry has been lauded because he threw many different defensive looks at Purdue. Hmmmm?
