Based on what we saw from Tuesday's practice:
QB: Blough, Sindelar
RB: Jones ... Hard to tell, still rotating guys there, Worship, Fuller, Lankford-Johnson, Yancey got snaps with 2s
WR: Yancey, Marshall
WR: Young, Burgess
WR: Posey, Phillips
TE: Herdman, Hopkins
RT: McCann, J. Neal
RG: Roos, Yacoobi
C: Barron, Mendez
LG: King, Truitt
LT: Patterson, Cermin
Comparison to my projected: Burgess and Mahoungou were in opposite spots. Otherwise, it's the same.
A couple potential notes of interest from Tuesday as it relates to the depth chart: During a period in which the O-line was working on blitz pick-up, there were only two running backs working with them, Jones and Lankford-Johnson. Now, it coincided with a special teams period, so it's possible Worship, Yancey and Fuller were working on special teams and weren't available. Or it's possible it's an indication Lankford-Johnson is the 2. Or it's possible L-J has so far to go in pass pro, that he wanted extra reps.
• Also, the O-line was working against the D-line in a physical, intense pass-rush period in which Darrell Funk was swapping guys out. McCann got yanked after one rep twice because he aligned incorrectly. (Funk made him do up-downs.) He got yanked another time because he didn't do what he was asked to do technique-wise. At one point, though Funk turned to yank someone and asked for Cermin to come get snaps at right tackle. Cermin had only taken left tackle reps to that point (and poked Gelen Robinson in the eye on one of them). But Cermin couldn't step in. Because he was snapping the ball during perimeter. HE WAS SNAPPING IN PERIMETER. Perimeter, for those who need reminding, is a 7-on-7 passing period in which there are no linemen. Usually a walk-on dude snaps. Cuz, ya know, it's just a nothing deal. Why in the world Cermin was over there, I have no idea. Could be an indication he is destined to becoming a "swing" tackle backup.
• Martesse Patterson could not even finish the gassers players ran after practice. He literally went down in the end zone and, smartly perhaps, avoided having to run the final 100 yards because practice ended. That dude better get motivated to play 70 snaps. I find it hard to see that happening.
DE: Panfil, Cook
DT: Replogle, Newton
NT: Wilson, Criddle
DE: Larkin, Robinson
MLB: Bentley, Herman
WLB: Bailey, Ezechukwu
CB: Hunte, Cason
CB: Norwood, Hardy
N: Roberts, Smiley
S: Clark, Parker
S: Mosley, Gregory
Compared to my projection: Cook instead of Henley (Henley was back at practice, just with the 3s); Criddle instead of Jones (shocker); Bailey instead of Ezechukwu (said earlier I wouldn't be surprised if this happened); Mosley instead of Gregory (not surprised).
A couple potential notes of interest from Tuesday as it relates to the depth chart: Will have more in my notebook in a bit, but Hazell said Bailey and Ezechukwu may be a rotation. We'll talk to Bailey and Marcus Freeman tomorrow. Same deal with Mosley and Gregory.
• Never saw Criddle coming. Of the three freshmen defensive linemen, he's looked the least fluid/prepared to me in individual periods. I don't think he even got many 2 reps all camp. It was usually Jones or Watts. Watts actually got some 1 reps in the scrimmage in place of Replogle. We'll see if it sticks. Maybe they're still working guys in that 2 spot to see who pops.
• Ezechukwu was with the 1s in the 4-3.
• Antonio Blackmon was the top dime back, but Simeon Smiley still will get a chance there, too, Taver Johnson said after practice.
