I don't like to make comparisons. But I feel like he may turn into our own OG Anunoby... Which I would personally have no problem with. Athletic. Long. Able to score in multiple ways.
Do you mean similar as in play style to OG or just being a surprise with how good they end up?
I thought I "read" somewhere that he was now 6'9". No thoughts on Nojels short video? Just a rhetorical...Aaron Wheeler is going to impact next years team more than most think. Great pickup. Looks to me like he may have even grown in the past year. Anyone know his current height?
I have seen all kinds of players do thing he does..maybe not as many as well, but the thing that caught my attention is just how soft his perimeter shot is. I mean it is like it barely gets there..not your usual stroke. I hope a little physical play doesn't cause him problems. I like him adn he shoots very well...just not used to seeing one that soft so far away...on all his shots...Odd that the video started with 30 seconds of watching him winded but dude can jump that's for sure. Best dunker Purdue has had in a while it seems. His shot didn't look bad either. Looks like he needs to get a lot stronger but seems like he's going to be a fun guy to watch.

I don't want him to break bankboards, but it is unusally soft
I noticed that as well, but isn't that a good thing for a shot? It did seem to float in and roll around the rim a lot, but isn't that good? More likely to fall in when it hits iron? I know I wish my shot was softer!

Nobody wants a hard shot. It is just sooooooo different i don't know how to process it. Yes, it has a better chance of going in than a hard shot adn as you say it just kinda lays in there. When I think of a person shooting it well, it seems to go through the net with enough backspin and arc that it wants to come back to you. Usually, there is a little side spin, or bounced back and forth on the rim, way too much arc...not enough arc etc. I like the soft shot...I just don't know how to process it knowing college will be more physical.I noticed that as well, but isn't that a good thing for a shot? Funny how this works.....now they're totally different players, physiques, etc. but when I saw some, especially the lefty in the lane, and the softness......I started thinking....that reminds me of Bob Lanier's shot.
Not sure how different the style will be, but the athleticism will be enhanced. I doubt Purdue presses, but may play more pressure. I expect man. I expect motion. I expect more slicing and more ways of scoring...and depth...Wheeler, C Edwards, and Eastern may comprise the most athletic guard/wing grouping I can recall at Purdue. All three poses, at their given levels, the ability to shoot from outside and create going to the basket.
Very exciting futures for each. 18 months from now we will witness a completely different style of ball from Purdue than we have seen before.
Yes. I am thinking that the back to the basket stuff will be far less frequent and the players at every position will use slashing movement to create space and opportunities. It will be a different look but still run from motion sets. Just MORE motion. Obviously I'm thinking two seasons from now as Haas will dictate similar to this years approach. Not sure how different the style will be, but the athleticism will be enhanced. Matt does like a back to the basket player, but like you I see less offense going through the low post as much. Haas can't play all teh game and so we will see some next year. Also, who is to say that 2 different people can't go out and make quick low post baskets and play more like Biggie...THAT is my preferred approach...Yes. I'm hoping to see the transition start next season as you suggested. It will be another very flexible team, maybe more so than this season.Matt does like a back to the basket player, but like you I see less offense going through the low post as much. I think there will be times that Purdue is very fast to get down the court and score and other times...Purdue bruises you insideI'm hoping to see the transition start next season as you suggested. It will be another very flexible team, maybe more so than this season.
all possibleThe length and athleticism of this class will give Painter some interesting lineup combinations.
What I see if a more uptempo lineup who will have multiple options to drive, create their own shots and be a matchup nightmare. They will be the group that gives us a lead or stretches it. Once we have the lead, you send in Haas to punish them.
Someone asked how Wheeler flew under the radar and there are probably a few reasons. First, he was a late bloomer in size and skill. Second, he could have played on a subpar AAU team. Lastly, he isn't from a traditional basketball powerhouse state so not as much attention.
Just my 3 cents
I have no idea how Wheeler was able to fly this far under the radar. Wheeler is the best player on one of the best teams in the nation. He has a ton of athleticism for his size and he can already shoot/defend. Wheeler could likely come right in and make an immediate impact along with Eastern. We are very lucky to get him and Eastern. Not quite sure on Haarms or Ewing. Haarms looks like he could bea JJ type player on offense, just need to get him playing solid defense. I like the addition of Sasha as well. Sasha likely red shirts, but if he puts in the work, he could be a lot like Dakota in a few years. If we add Ondigo we will be in much better shape going in to next year (and we appear to be the best offer and in good position to get him). I would have loved to grab Manley as well. UNC got a heck of a player in Manley, but I think Ondigo is exactly what Purdue needs. An athletic big that can alter shots. I love watching these videos of Wheeler and Eastern. Man, they look like they could be a really special duo and they get 3 years with Carsen!!
Is this second sentence true? I thought there was other high d1 talent on his team. I agree though, it seems like we got him effortlessly.
Although Jacob Lawson had me super pumped after highlight videos too.
I had a random guy in Evanston tell me we will love having Nojel on the team. I was waslkkmg to the Starbucks before the game and he just mentioned to me in passing. I think he was impressed when I knew who he was talking about. I can't wait to see what next years team looks like.Go check out above the short link to Nojel...Purdue will like this guy---

A new life begins for @NEblessed_20 as his 31 points , 10 rebounds and 6 steals were not enough !
Laswson was fun To watch for big thunderous dunks. This kid is quick, agile, and skilled. In that highlight you see a quick two handed dunk off of two feet, a layup where he releases the ball with his hand at the middle of the square, a running two hand throw down in which he is still rising as the ball goes through the rim, several soft threes, a mid range side step jumper in the paint. He's not just an athlete. He's a ball player. I think that's the difference. Is this second sentence true? I thought there was other high d1 talent on his team. Lawson never actually looked nearly explosive at Purdue as he did in the highlights. Maybe due to him blowing out his achilles be fore he got here. He was still probably the most athletic big man on the team but din't resemble the freak we thought we might be getting, he mostly just looked lost.Is this second sentence true?
