Stupid is caving into Russian demands as the previous Republican Party correctly believed and had a bedrock policy against. They also believed that America had a responsibility to stand up for democracy and international borders.
You seem to forget, or just didn’t know, that in the Budapest agreement of ‘94 Russia promised not to invade Ukraine if they gave up their nuclear weapons. But by all means let’s believe what Putin says.

Ukraine is not anything close to a democracy. Most repubs do stand up for international borders when those borders bound the US, such as our southern boarder across which drugs, child labor and sex trafficking have been a thriving business under your savior Joe, great humanitarian that he is.
At the very least, saying we opposed Ukraine entering NATO would have removed a propaganda angle from Putin. At best, it might have stopped him from invading. Another simple cost/benefit analysis that is beyond you.

It says any attack on a NATO member in Europe or North America “shall be considered an attack against them all.” Accepting Ukraine into NATO would require them to defend Ukraine if they are attacked by Russia. Clear?
Ukraine had presidential and parliamentary elections in 2019 that were considered fair by international observers. So yeah, they are something close to a democracy, your pro Russia position notwithstanding Yes, some organizations loyal to Putin have been banned. And power is usually centralized when under direct military threat from a superpower who dominated every facet of life in the country for 70 years. It sure would be great if Ukraine could flip the switch and become a perfect democracy overnight. Russia makes that impossible.

This may be most dumbest ass thing I have ever heard. We promise we won’t allow Ukraine into NATO until the war is over. You know. The thing you started the war over. So basically if Putin continues the war in some manner then he gets what’s he intended. Check back with me in the same length of time Russian forces were in Afghanistan.
And the US (and NATO) broke their promises to Russia and continued to expand eastward. And Scranton Joe wrote checks his butt couldn’t cash talking about Ukraine into NATO. All that bravado and here we are with thousands of dead and billions of dollars squandered and our military resources drained. No peace talks in sight. Then why didn't Putin invade when Trump was in office? Serious question. Why did Putin invade Crimea under Obama and Ukraine under Biden? Why didn't he do it when Trump was in office?
