The penalty in the first half for having two players wearing #4 on the field. How does nobody on the staff see a problem with somebody else wearing the same number as a player who is on the field pretty much every kick return, punt return, and offensive play? That floors me.

Oh well. Same sh!t, different season.

Yep. No reason for anyone who might remotely be involved on special teams to be wearing #4.

Inexcusable...simply inexcusable, never mind both asinine and ridiculous...compounded by the fact that it is indeed #4...not only for the reason that you mentioned about that being just plain stupid, literally, of all numbers, why a duplicate of that one given who the primary player is wearing it?

There are 85 guys on a scholarship...how difficult is it really to find a number between 0-99 for each of them that play?

You nailed it though in asking how literally not one person on the staff could see it as a potential issue.

Coaching mistake. Paid handsomely not to “F” that up. Didn’t manage well in 2nd half either. Hey, another QB draw should work again.

There is NO EXCUSE for two players to be wearing the same number. It is an accident waiting to happen, and it did.

That is on the coaches. Moore was there first, he took the number. The second player has to adjust to a different one. It is that simple. To pretend otherwise is ridiculous.

The claim that it is unlikely that the two will be on the field simultaneously may be true, but it occurred nonetheless. It should not happen ever again. No sharing of numbers from now on ever!!!

Recruiting promises....

Changes nothing...almost makes it even worse.

If that is what is making a kid commit...he is selfish.

No good excuse to have to duplicate numbers, but, in this case especially...with the number being what it is/was, should have been REALLY easy to just let them know that they already had a #4 on the team...and, that he basically IS the team.

Even so, ridiculous to have a situation where they may both end up on the field, never mind for it to have actually happened.

Maybe Rondale didn’t care. It’s possible he isn’t a stuck up asshole, heard someone on defense wanted to wear 4 as well and said yeah let him do it

I am sure that is what happened...and, comes as no surprise in that regard, but, still pretty dumb...and, more so for what happened to have happened as a result of it.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think it's stupid for players to share numbers? I sure as he'll wouldn't want another dude to have the same number as myself! Your number is your identity.
So Grant is a DB. Look at the roster. His choices would have been a few numbers in the 60’s and I think one in the 90’s. Otherwise he shares a number. So which one should he get??

The special teams coach is horrible ...

Oh, I'm not saying it's a good idea. I'm just saying I'm guessing that's why there was another #4.

Again, there's a lot of people complaining about things that are ultimately coaches decisions. There's a lot of skirting around some problems it seems.

You guys are getting worked up over nothing. Look at the rosters across the NCAA... every single team has duplicates. If players share numbers, you do the best you can to make it where they're not likely to share the field.

The fact that they were using their starting QB to pooch punt was not expected. This threw a wrench into our PR team, and I doubt this early in the season they've been able to practice much punt return-safe and get reps against that look. They probably had to gameplan on the fly and didn't realize they had Moore on the field with a backup safety... which would never happen in normal game scenarios.

Of all the coaching mistakes from that game, this is a strange one to be focusing on.

Spiral, you are correct that if you have greater than 101 players on a squad you will have duplicates. However, for road games you cannot have that many in attendance. Coaches know whom they will take to these games. Thus, it is simple to eliminate even the remote possibility of simultaneous duplicates on the field.

In the case of home games, duplicates should only be given to players unlikely to even get in the game - those far down the depth chart. Thus, if an error like seen in Nevada occurs, it would almost certainly be in a game that is not close and thus any associated penalty would be meaningless in determining outcome.

That is very different from the Nevada game.

No excuse.

I cannot believe it happened.
