Illinois is not going to be as good as Purdue … that’s a 4-8/5-7 football team

Why is that?
I bought the extra $8 where you can read everyone’s premium board. There was a thread by fans after the spring game and the takes were:

“Don’t have a starting running back who can get to the outside”
“Nothing but questions at receiver”
“Offensive line not going to be good”
“Secondary will take a big step back”

Illinois did not have a spring game….other than than the secondary taking a step back, lot of poor takes….

Per their fans (everyone agreed)

Offensively,

(1) we don't have a starter at RB - we have some complementary backs but not a first string back;
(2) OL is unknown but I suspect your proposed starting five is likely pretty close to where we end up;
(3) WR, better but still lack speed;
(4) TE, likely will continue to be a black hole.
Defensively, secondary will take a significant step back, how can it not.

But the Bigten West in general is not as good as last year, and we have a shot.

I was a little off

It got canceled due to lightning storm
This is the first line in the article posted on the thread by Illinois rivals staff by the way:

“Illinois wrapped up spring football with an open scrimmage at Memorial Stadium on Friday night.”

I am an illinois fan. The televised scrimmage was cancelled and they had an open scrimmage that was hardly attended maybe a day or two later. Most fans have not seen this team at all.

That’s what they were saying in that thread.

Purdue will beat Illinois. They have since I was in college. Even with Darrell hazell. He couldn’t find a urinal to stop from pissing himself.. but he could beat Illinois. That’s why I think that.

Why do you lose so often to a team you just seem to think you’ll beat .. as though it’s what you do? You’re 4-14 against Purdue in your last 18 and you have lost your last 3.

Illinois football has had its probably worst 25 year run till the last couple of years. I don’t remember mentioning beating Purdue….

See post 6. I made a claim and you asked why. Why not? You had what was a great year for Illinois last year. You lost to Purdue and didn’t finish as high as Purdue. So when you ask why, I’m asking you why not? What indicates that my claim would not be the case

I was referring to you saying they will be a 4-8 or 5-7 team. No one knows for sure what the Purdue illinois game will turn out to be at this point….

Stronger case for Purdue winning than Illinois.

Walters was the reason for your success. Bert’s offense is archaic. But when you hold Wisconsin to 10, Iowa to 3, Nebraska to 9 and Minnesota to 14, you’re gonna win a lot of divisional games…

Walters is the third defensive assistant under Bielema to become a HC . Pretty sure he knows what he is doing on that side of the ball And the entire defensive staff did a very good job…..

I don’t doubt that.. but I do doubt that Illinois will be the third ranked defense In the country and will blank teams like that. When was the last assistant to become a head coach? Arkansas?

Charlie partridge, Dave Doreen and Chryst at Pitt….they will be young in the defensive backfield but the defense will be pretty good.

I don’t doubt that .. I just don’t think they will be special. And that offense will be eh. If I’m wrong I will say so
