32 years ago this evening...

The chair went flying at Assembly Hall in the early going of a 72-63 Purdue victory.

I know, it's slightly off-topic and a little cliched, but what the hey...

I still remember Bill Hosket announcing that game. Another humorous aspect of the lead up to Knight's technical foul(s) is that when Purdue in-bounds after the first foul (which Alford and Knight thought should have been a jump ball), the official is almost already calling the foul on Thomas....they apparently didn't get the memo about Assembly Hall.

Starting at about 0:39, below.

And of course Coach Gene Keady was livid at Reid for missing three of the six FT's.....made the first two and the last one.

Remember it well. Just moved to Austin, walked in from work, turned on the tv and 30 seconds later Bobby threw the chair. Serendippity baby! Can't believe I just said that.....I feel dirty....

The announcers are dipsh*ts. "I understand they have a very nice golf course in Bloomington; the University Course." Wah Wah. Terrible.

I remember my history teacher at Bedford North Lawrence playing this game on VCR shortly after it happened. I was probably the only Purdue fan in the class so I didn't mind. It was historical and a good lesson on anger management.

Who were the officials that game? The Boilers might want to have them down the stretch this season. (tic) Knight really put the Ass. into Ass. Hall that day. I think it was premeditated. If the team got off to a bad start (they were having a tumultuous season up to that point with seniors like Dan Dakich and Uwe Blab providing the leadership), he would do something like that so he could get ejected and go play golf (or something like that), lol.

I've always wondered if it had been Michigan, or Ohio State, would Bob have tossed the chair. Purdue, big rivalry, Keady on the other bench...I doubt we'd have seen it fly against anyone else.

I was alive and old enough to remember it being talked about after but I was young enough to not really watch basketball games or have allegiances yet.

Oh no! Are you gonna make mix in multiple zone defenses?

I seem to remember that this game played in the afternoon.

Yep, it was a Saturday afternoon: https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/?year=1985&country=1

I was a toddler when this actually happened but actions like this from Bob Knight were definitely a big part of the reason why my parents and older brother were watching and rooting for Purdue (they thought Knight was an a$$) and how I got into watching Boilers men's hoops about 5 years later. So, the chair toss (among other Knight actions) and my brother liking to watch "The Three Amigos" teams helped solidify my position as a Boilermakers fan.

Keady's 100th win, in the fewest games in B1G history, breaking Knight's record for that, head to head on Bobby's home floor. Every columnist in the Midwest was going to write a big "torch has been passed" article about Gene being the coach who does the most with the least (especially following the previous year's B1G Title with a team picked 9th out of 10) and best coach in the State/Conference for that next day's Sunday paper and Bobby knew it.

Now, nobody seems to even know about Coach Keadys milestone victory. No coach demands more attention to himself than Knight did. Had he won, it would have all been about the golf shirt replacing his Herb Tarlek used car salesman jacket. But since he lost, it's all about, well, you know the rest...

It was played in the afternoon.I missed the first half because I had to attend my nephews birthday party.

Sorry to hear that, Tigerchump. Did the kids at least play musical chairs?
