27 assists on 31 made baskets. That is pretty dang impressive. Even though Painter left Biggie on the bench too long, we had a bunch of good offensive sets tonight that led to easy baskets and he should get credit for that.

At first, I thought maybe Biggie was on the bench too long also, but when he was interviewed at the end, you could tell he was winded and had depleted his energy. Maybe Painter knows more than we do about how to rest his players. A win is a win.

Evidence of great coaching by Painter and excellent execution by the Boilers. Bring it on and let's keep this TRAIN rolling!!!

Yep great game. plan...I give Coach and players credit for that.

Bingo - I think he had been winded at the end of games. Also, we played very well in the first half with Haas in and Swanigan out. Iowa State just happened to hit a couple shots.

I can often see both sides of the Painter criticisms on here. I just don't buy this one. If you can maintain the momentum and prevent the Iowa State run, you don't put yourself in a tossup situation down the stretch. If Swanigan needed a rest, which he seemed to be arguing against on the bench, I don't think he needed 5 minutes of game time including one full TV timeout.

How many easy buckets did we get or post entry feeds resulting in points? How many open 3's did we get? Answer is quite a few and the players were put in perfect position. I would say Painter coached perfectly for 38/40 minutes. Biggie sat a little too long/ we went small a little too long. A good portion of the Iowa State shots that were made were indefensible. They are an extremely good offensive team and we put significant pressure on them. Morris and Burton are the obvious type of players that when they are on you cannot guard them. Thomas was also this way, hitting tough shot after tough shot. They didn't want to play defense but they swung for the fences on offense and were very talented.

It was more than just to rest him and what was he out two minutes? Maybe Vince was exhausted since he is 85% FT shooter and missed two. Since Vince Missed he sets Dakota up to get the inbounds pass while the Iowa State coach had just subbed for the foul..and ended up fouling Dakota who was 84% and he too missed...and then PJ bounced it back and forth to make his first and then nailed his second. It takes quite a toll for the bigs to take the physical pushing and to run the length of the court instead of FT line to FT line. Purdue has Haas, Biggie and Vince and the concern will always be energy and fouls with the limited depth. Everybody in the country knew that Purdue would try to get the ball to Biggie adn Vince nails a huge basket on the block...and PJ hits a big three.

Team win. I'm not sure I've seen Purdue play any better this year...and boy did IOWA State hit some contested shots early. Kinda like Purdue aware of the press to score there enough for the win...kinda like Purdue knowing the pressure is coming to clear the lane and get some back cuts to Vince and Dakota enough for the win.

Now Biggie and Mason get the same stage...

Kansas has to win first!

Share the same stage I suppose, but not like they'll be playing eachother. It's like when they hype QB vs. QB - well they aren't going head to head.

But what takes the cake are the constant shots of coaches wives, parents, player's parents, etc. Show them once, maybe twice and be done with it. Collins' parents got on TV more than Julia Louise Dreyfus and in the first game they showed him every other play. The ISU/Purdue parents weren't too over the top, but I really don't need to see their reaction after a typical basket.

Sigh, rant over.

I am SO GLAD you brought this up. The bigs run a hell of a lot further than the smalls during a game. A consideration that no one ever mentions.

27 assists in a game, yeah, that's a good job of moving the basketball.

Purdue needs to be patient on offense regardless who they play. They rushed a bit a few times in the second half and pushed a bit in not great situations in the second half. Purdue moves the ball around well and as long as they keep their turnovers low, they should find a pretty good shot.

They were playing different spots this whole year and are being compared. This matchup gives the others across the country a chance to see both in the same game. It puts them on the same stage even if they are playing different instruments
