Wide Reeciver
2024 Projection: Possible Starter
Purdue may not have an Anthrop on the roster anymore, but they have an Anthrop-like player in Sowinski. He came to Purdue from Catholic powerhouse Chatard in Indianapolis, where he had an excellent career with 64 receptions for 1,055 yards and 22 touhdowns as a senior in helping Chatard win its 14th state championship.
Still, he had to earn his way to the field as a walk-on, and that's exactly what he has done. He saw his first career action as a redshirt freshman in 2021 where he caught two passes in the blowout at UConn. That led to a larger role in 2022, where he played in 12 games and even made four starts. He finished the season with 9 catches for 96 yards and he served as both a kickoff and punt returner. Last season he had just three catches for 29 yards, but he did catch a two-point conversion at Nebraska.
Sowinski is a lunch pail receiver. He has good speed and he has earned his way by running crisp routes with good hands. I look for him to have a big year in the slot in 2024, and because he was on the roster in 2020 I believe he could technically return in 2025 for his COVID year if he chose.
