We have some pretty loaded 2018 and 2019 classes so I am thinking 2020 may be smaller. Right now we only appear to have 14 scholarships available and that could be less if we give the preferred walk-on kicker one and Sindelar gets his 6th year. With attrition, I don't see how we can expect any more than 20 commits and the coaches may be targeting certain positions. I know they will probably want 1 QB, 4-5 OL, and 3-4 DL as they say they will recruit the lines hard (we have 11 OL after 2020, 10 after 2021 and 14 and 12 for DL respectively). We are so loaded at WR I don't see how we could take more than 3 in 2020 and it seems there are 3-4 that are ready to commit soon. We are light at RB. LB, and TE but OK at DB. Here is a hypothetical 20 person class with my guess as top targets):

QB - 1 (McQuarrie)
RB - 2 (Marcellus Moore + Michael Drennen)
OL - 4 (Holtz, John Young, Hartwig (or Fryar), Sam Rengert)
TE - 1 (Briceson Rodgers)
WR - 3 (Yaseen, Baker, Jadon Thompson)
DL - 3 (Bryce Austin, Brevard, Deonate Craig)
LB - 4 (Wingo, Antonio Doyle, Brandon Williams, Jahein Thompson) - Had a hard time finding guys we are recruiting hard at this position!
DB - 2 (Lenzi, Brandt)

Seems very light, but I don't see how you can rob one position for another? With such few spots open, would we expect a much higher rated class as there is a sense of urgency to grab the few scholarships available? What are your thoughts?

Thompson posted he wanted to team up with Henning, the number one player/WR out of Illinois. If Purdue lands Thompson, they likely land Henning as well. Both had a very good visit from according to their twitter. I think Purdue sits in a real good position to land both. And yes, you absolutely would take them both.

If Purdue can land Henning, Thompson, and Moore that would be 3 of the best players in Illinois, which would be very impressive.

Don’t sleep on Boone (RB) out of Michigan for the RB position. Or Leshon Williams out of Illinois (yes, Illinois could be very kind to Purdue for that ‘20 class).

As pointed out in another thread, Mcquarrie has a bother at BC. Would be a tough pull.

Young and Hartwig would be really good anchors for the OL. Young will be hard to pull out of Kentucky, but man is he going to be good.

For LB I like the Wise kid from Carmel. He has family ties to Notre Dame, so if they offer, he gone. Other than that, Purdue has a really good shot at him.

I don’t think we end up with Brevard. I don’t think he lands at Oregon, like his CB says, but he will be tough. He has gotten a ton of national attention and Michigan is pretty heavy on him. He is impossible to read at this point though, and it is possible he wants to stay home.

Brandt seems like a lock. Had a good visit.

We will know a lot more once the summer camps kick up. Players will shift in their rankings based on how they do, but we will also see who shows up at Purdue’s camps. If Brohm can get them to camp, he has been pretty dang successful at landing them. Purdue has an incredible staff and some top notch facilities. I can’t wait til some of the ‘20 class starts to commit. I lost count of all the folks that picked up offers recently. But this past weekend was loded with talented recruits.

I hope Wright really works on Young.

Will be some attrition from the 2018 class and likely grad transfers after next season. Wouldn’t be surprised to see 4-5 to get the classes evened out a bit and have the 2020 class get to 18-20.

as the ratings are based on both quality and quantity, it will be very hard to duplicate this year's rating with a smaller class.

Additionally, if Brohm is actually passing on guys like Cam because of questions about his academics, then he has probably passed on others for the same reason. the end result is a lot smarter players, and fewer academic casualties. This is good for the team, but doesn't open up holes for recruits. I will predict rather than academic casualties, because of the strength of talent of this year's class, you may see more players transfer if they do not see sufficient playing time. With success breeds discontent for those who don't play.

I don’t think it will be very hard. 10 of the top 25 have fewer than 20 players and there are a couple that have 0 5 star and 6 4 star. If we cut our class by 5-6 it will likely be at the bottom. With the recruits currently showing strong interest i think we can be right where we are or even better next year.

And according to Twitter he actually committed to University of Purdue. 5-11, 135 lb WR, gotta be a typo?
His Hudl profile lists him as 135 lb also. I found his twitter and he in fact did tweet that he was committing, followed by "#Bollier Football"

I saw this too. We will not have the ability to take more than 2 to 3 WR at the most with more than likely smaller this class this next year. If we get Bell, we got (3) 4.star WRs going by Rivals, even though we cpuld say 4, because Sheffield was a 4 star in other recruiting services. We are going after some big time receivers in 2020. I am not sure why we would accept a verbal from a kid that is not rated yet. Maybe he will be very highly rated in the next few months, and was a hidden gem right now, just confused by it.

Greyshirt is still on the table. Triplett's LOI hasnt been acknowledged by purdue

If we are having him greyshirt I hope it was fully discussed and agreed to before he had his ceremony yesterday. The tweets and one news story from the NWI Times make it seem like he signed an actual NLI, but the failure to acknowledge it makes it look like he is a greyshirt. Not sure why, as we are at 23 now and I thought the deal with Wahlberg was he was blue shirting. Seems we have room for bell and Triplett, but maybe there is a third person we are trying to sign.

Probably need it for a Grad Transfer in the spring.

Dear Open Forum Gang, When a recruit is listed as DE`s is that to say that those listed as such and those marked as DT`s are most likely playing those positions?? Seems like we have several more DE`s than DT`s.....
May sound like a stupid question but i do not see a big difference in the size of player that CJB is recruiting in those two positions.

There is always movement between positions. Reviere has already mentioned he plans on moving inside next year.

Bodies and quickness change when a big boy gets better wright training and diet. What is today will likely change over the recruit's next 4 years.

There appears to be a misunderstanding for this kid... and he will not be bringing his talents from south beach to west Lafayette.
