Purdue could have some interesting games next season. They have a chance to play a team in each of the power 5 conferences. I am curious to see who they will be matched up against in the ACC and Big East games? I would like to see them play tough teams to get us ready for the Big Ten season and put some good wins on our resume. Who would you like to see them play?

Big East- yet to be determined
ACC- yet to be determined
ND
Auburn, chance to also play Texas Tech
Arizona St.

Villinova or Xavier for Big East challenge.
Duke, UNC, Louisville, or Syracuse for the ACC challenge.

Okay so we know that Duke and NC are pretty much taken. They always play against MSU and Indiana. Virginia and Louisville are next could be one of them. I still think Wisc. gets the better draw then us and maybe even Michigan. I would like to see us play a ranked ACC team and have a chance at an upset.

Same with the Big East. The better teams will play somebody else. I doubt they would pair us up against Butler? Probably be someone like Creighton or Georgetown?

The ACC will be strong again next year, I'd be pleased if we drew one of any of the following: Duke, UNC, UVA, Louisville, Miami, Syracuse.

I don't know what to make of the Big East, but other than Villanova and Xavier, Seton Hall looks to be pretty strong based on the pundits very early 2016 rankings.

Frankly, I'll take another mid-tier ACC team if we're going to play them on the road. Give me UNC or Duke when they have to come play in West Lafayette. Would love to draw Villanova in the Big East game.

Nah. Need to play in tough enviorments. Going to UNC or Duke would help the team a lot come march.

If they play in a Duke/UNC enviorment it would make their March enviorments a lot easier. Playing in Mackey every tough game isn't going to benefit us in March.

We'll play in plenty of tough environments during the season. Playing at Iowa and at IU didn't seem to help us be ALR. I think winning at Pittsburgh this past season did more for us than losing at Duke would have. I wouldn't be upset if we got to play at UNC or Duke but I'm not sure that playing them on the road as opposed to a neutral court does us any favors.

TC, do you try to be this dumb or does it just come natural to you? Are you really comparing a road game at Iowa to a road game at UNC or Duke?

Like I said earlier, Duke and NC will be off the board. Teams like MSU and IU get matchups against them. We will play a more mid level ACC team. Still could draw one that is ranked though. I would love to have a primetime game against Duke or NC though. How cool would that be?

If you think that's what I did then you shouldn't be worrying about how dumb anyone is except you.

We are going to be no higher than 4th preseason in the B1G (and 5th more likely). We aren't playing Duke, UNC, Nova, or X.

I would absolutely love to play Louisville in the ACC Challenge. They would actually be my #1 choice.

The Gavitt games didn't seem like rankings etc mattered last year. Very random match ups.

Does Louisville still press!? Queue the panic!

The Gavitt games were not really based on rankings - but uninteresting match-ups.

As much as I'd love to have another game in DC, pretty sure Georgetown is playing Maryland again (they played @ Maryland last year).

Is Purdue for sure participating in the Big East games? The Big East is obviously only 10 teams, so some Big Ten teams are left out.

Would be nice to play Butler in one of each other's actual arenas - but I believe the Crossroads Classic contract prevents scheduling that (that event is so dumb...sigh).

But they had a lot of very random match-ups last year - and didn't seem to be at all dependent on how good teams were supposed to be (i.e. Nebraska and Villanova played).

Yes Purdue will play against a big east team. Last year they weren't in that tournament. If Nebraska got vill. Then maybe Purdue will get a good opponent?

I understand they weren't in the series last year - but last I read, there was no confirmation if they would be in it this upcoming season or not. Has there been confirmation?

There were only 8 games played last year, which means 6 Big Ten teams do not participate - so just because Purdue didn't participate last year doesn't really guarantee they will this year.

The match-ups last year were super random. Last year, there were basically 2 good match-ups, which was disappointing given that both conferences have good teams (Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Ohio State did not participate to name a few). Xavier vs. Michigan and Georgetown vs. Maryland were the two interesting ones.

So I wouldn't count on anything - but hopefully they improve the match-ups a bit. I understand the bad teams have to play too, but having two of the favorites in the Big East both play average teams was a disappointment (Villanova/Nebraska, Providence/Illinois) while many of the Big Ten favorites did not participate.

now we will see who they select us to play in the ACC tournament. I am guessing Louisville or Syracuse. Next season could be fun.

That's what you call a "Honey" of a prediction.

Btw, really nice to see Villanova on the schedule. Both teams "should" be ranked; good opportunity for the Boilers to get some exposure and a stern backcourt test.

Ha

To be fair, the match-ups are somewhat scripted for the top teams in the Big 10/ACC, but the Big East games were just a shot in the dark last year (i.e. Villanova playing Nebraska). So I'm not surprised by our match-up, although you could argue they could be pitting Villanova against a Michigan State as an even better match-up for TV.

As long as Purdue is on ESPN, rather than ESPN2, I'll be happy. That means playing one of the big 5: Duke, UNC, UVa, Cuse, or UL.

If you went by straight up preseason predictions (which obviously they don't necessarily do and obviously will be adjusted as players declare/don't declare)....

Duke vs. MSU

UNC vs. Wisconsin

Maryland vs. Louisville

IU vs. UVA

Purdue vs. Syracuse

Miami would be the next one "up" in the ACC...

These aren't even preseason predictions. I don't understand how anyone can predict anything at this point. With the new ability to test the NBA Draft waters, we can't begin to know how these teams will look until at least after all these players determine they are coming back.

I get that...but they have typically announced the match-ups in early May, which would be before any NBA draft final decisions have been made.

And match-ups are not necessarily made based on any predictions. Purdue was preseason ranked this year, yet did not play a fellow ranked ACC opponent (and they existed). They also have to take other factors into consideration - like home/away, there are some ACC teams that don't participate that are probably rotated, etc.

ACC is all about what ESPN wants to put on tv. That's really all that matters. As near as I can tell, the ACC drops their last place team from the Challenge but I haven't verified that. I don't ever remember a top tier program not participating.

They generally like to alternate home/away, although I think Purdue has played two consecutive road games once and two consecutive home games once in the series. Both Louisville and Purdue played on the road last year, but I wouldn't mind the Boilers visiting the Yum! center, despite it taking on its new meaning.

you are correct. ESPN wants the big name teams and big matchups. That is why it seems that MSU and Indiana play Duke and NC. I wouldn't mind seeing Purdue play Louisville or Syracuse though.
