We have heard for sometime that this class, the 2016 recruiting class, is going to be a small one. We only had 12 to 13 spots open at best, which is why we were not going after a QB, good call for not doing that now.

Well, we signed 4 in the mid semester, which counts technically toward the 2015 class, but the number of spots open are the number of spots open on a team. We have 10 verbals still, so that would be 14. I know we are still recruiting other recruits, OL, DL, WR, so is this class going to be bigger than anticipated or how do these numbers work? Are we losing some current members of the team that just have not been announced yet?

This isn't a thread bitching about the coaches or certain recruits so you won't yield many responses. You'll see a few guys leave that will open up a few more scholarships. Appleby is pretty much gone, wouldn't be surprised if a guy like Green leaves too, we will see what happens.

Hokies have reached out to Luke Campbell.

Also Iowa State, there will be more
....and Shuman
"I have three schools that I'm interested in visiting, but Purdue is one automatically and I'm going to visit there.
"I might be visiting Kentucky in January, and I might be visiting Virginia after the season as well."

Any time you make major coaching changes, you have to expect recruits to take a wait and see approach to whether they're going to sign or not. I hope we keep these guys but we need OC and DC in place pretty quickly in January.

More spots will be available saw that Hazell indicates that he believes he will have 3/4 transfers. My guesses are: curry, green, byars, appleby. Also heard that Cason's family was not happy with his playing time this year.

Yeah, Curry just graduated, so he wont have to sit a year.

Green and byars will have two left if they drop a level. Cason has 3 years left so he can play it a number of ways. 3 if he drops a level or 2 if he stays FBS. Also will be interesting to see the list of expected spring or summer graduates. Might give us a real clue. I think a DB is leaving Bc they are stocking up on dbs. Also hurts that clef might not be ready due to injury.

If Cason couldn't beat out Clark or Gregory, I have a hard time believing he is going to get a scholarship from another P5 school.

I am going to break and comment on this. If a team is winning , then the players who sit the bench, can see that the coach is playing the right players and knows what he is doing. But when a team is getting beat almost every game, the players on the bench are seeing the mistakes being made over and over, and they are gonna feel like they can do better then the ones getting beat every game. If you keep losing and playing the same players , either you have no bench or the ones on the bench are flat out terrible.

This is so true. I believed it was alluded to in one of the interviews by one of outgoing players that the best product (i.e. Best players) were not always starting. Would have been interesting to see who they were talking about.

guys get picked up all the time for depth and special teams at P5. Coaches understand that talent alone does not get you on the field. Heard a good quote recently that the "best players don't always play but the most liked do". Your relationship with your position coach dictates a lot.
