So, found this in WL last year. Did some research on it, looks like from the tag, manufacturing location, and singled digit post code this is a BBall warm-up sweater from 1943 to 1953. It's got the #20 on the sleeve, but I could only find the rosters w/out assigned numbers on them for that time period. It's in INSANE condition for something that old. Just wish I could find out who wore it. Couldn't really tell from the yearbooks that are online either. Anyone else find any resources for player numbers back in that era?

You guys caught the 1943-1953 part right? Unless you're talking about A.J.'s grandfather i'm not sure you understood what I was asking.

It could have belonged to the late Paul Friend who wore #20 back in 1943 and played guard at Purdue and was team captain...he was from Lafayette, so that would make sense of it being in a local store for sale.

If it was his, you have a great piece of Purdue history because he was a great man.....just like we all strive to be as a Boilermaker making a difference in life.

Hope I helped in some way.....

Wow, awesome work on finding that! I really appreciate the info. I've been beating my head on the wall trying to find any leads on who owned it. Thanks!

Yes there were freshmen teams-Len Dawson,Erich Barnes and Cal Grosscup(who transferred) played freshmen ball.On the site I saw Charlie Reynolds(RPh) who was a team mate of Blind&Dunn at Jeff,Bob Faris my football coach at Logansport,Carl McNulty and for Tony Don Bol.I wonder if Paul Friend was related to Bob Friend(Pittsburg pitcher)who also was from West Lafayette.

Where in WL did you find it? I've actually been trying to find something like this for awhile. Do you know of a store with good vintage Purdue merchandise?

Goodwill, amusingly enough. I've got a 1932 copy of "Practical Basketball" by Piggy Lambert up right now as well found in a different goodwill. Better to be lucky than good I guess.
