So let me get this straight. That last pick at the end of the Marshall game, when Marshall was rushing 3 guys and dropping 8, and Appleby still gets hit on the arm as he was releasing the ball, that is Appleby's fault? So the tackle and guard who couldn't block one guy get the free pass and no blame? While I'm not excusing AA's play, putting all those picks on him and none on his protection over the last two years shows a pretty weak knowledge of the game to me.Going back to last year, AA has thrown 11 picks and 5 TDs in 5 games. I would venture to say that we lost 3 of those 5 games because of poor QB play.
Who cares about all that? The stiff-arm TD pass trumps all.Going back to last year, AA has thrown 11 picks and 5 TDs in 5 games. I would venture to say that we lost 3 of those 5 games because of poor QB play.
I would submit that we will need a QB who can win games for us in the big ten, the trefzgers and Ter bush types traditionally haven't gotten it done. Our running game usually tails off against the better teams in the league. While that's obviously a terrible stat, I feel like he is more than capable to do the complete opposite.
I came into this season expecting Appleby to play like he did at the illiniois game. Make short throws, smart reads, and let the run game do the heavy lifting. I still think he is capable of throwing the ball 25 times a game and keeping the defense honest. Throwing him 48 times, is asking for some bad throws here and there. He isn't a QB who is going to go and win the game for you, and put up video game level stats

Don't twist my words. Appleby made some bad throws. But not ALL those picks were his fault. So help me understand. The first play of the game he opens with an interception that is returned for a touchdown and wasn't touched by any Marshall players. That's probably not his fault either. Or maybe the fact that he can't get to his second read and consistently throws to his first option whether he is covered or not. My guess that's not his fault either. Or when he tries to throw the ball with defenders draped over him and he threw one up for grabs that ended in an int and the other was almost a lost fumble. Probably not his fault either. I am sure he is a great kid, but his decision making skills are not very good on gameday. It's these types of mental mistakes that costs teams games amd for us to win, we cannot have a qb who does these types of things.
Hazell said he wants a QB that doesn't turn the ball over and make the makable plays. Appleby has not demonstrated either of those qualities in his 8 starts, so why stick with him?

Yes but AA didn't go against OUR prevent defense! They were absolutely his fault. If you are down at the end of a game, you will face a lot of coverage. On their last drive the Marshall QB (strangely left off the Elite 11 list) threw into prevent without coughing it up.
Interceptions that fly through the hands of open receivers to the D, receivers running the wrong route, or if a QB is hit from behind BEFORE he releases are not his fault.
People were going into last year with their stats. He threw four picks. The first was easily his fault. The other three were a mixture of poor pass protection and poor choices in throwing the ball. In fact on the deep, throw that ended up being as good as a punt either he threw the wrong pattern or the WR ran the wrong route. They were absolutely his fault.
