T-6 Fewest FTA: Gonzaga (Maui) T-Fewest FTA: Gonzaga (S16) In Maui & in the regional, it was the same venue and back-to-back games against Gonzaga...

Utah State v. Purdue - Game Thread (2024 NCAA Tournament, Midwest Region - round of 32)

What a game from TKR! His effort and energy early was pivotal. Lots of good performances today, but his start may have been the most important part of the game.

Right. Grambling was a team that lives by getting inside the arc, and Painter went with more athletic defenders on the perimeter. If we were playing Oakland and needed someone to stay in Gohlke's shorts on the perimeter without fear of getting blown by, I wouldn't have been surprised if Morton...

    ND: Dick Corbett - WTH?

Purdue isn't obnoxious with it, but is that any different than these? "The L. Dick Buell Endowed Head Men’s Basketball Coaching position is the second of its kind for Purdue Athletics, following the establishment of the Art and Connie Euler Head Volleyball Coaching position in September of 2017."

National ranking - curious if the #6 WIS road win moves the needle?

If I understand the bracketing rules correctly, that could only happen if at least 5 B1G teams ended up getting top 4 seeds. That would mean Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin, MSU, and then Northwestern and/or Nebraska getting top 4 seeds---possible, but unlikely at this point. NCAA bracketing...

Exactly. If the refs think a play might merit review for contact to the head, it seems simple for the the ref to ask the coach & player before the review: "Do you want me to go to the monitor to check for contact to the head?" That'll be the chance for the player to say, "no, he didn't get me...

Top selling NIL items for the week...our Boilers are 1 and 2, and 4 of the top 10.

I believe that list is just for the merchandise sold thru that particular store.

Painter to critics: "you don't understand basketball, it's really stupid" in press conference

That's completely ok because in those cases he is then explaining what he is seeing/coaching/etc. I'm a Painter fan, but this comment is disappointing just because of the fact that he didn't follow up with the explanation. The full answer was a little longer, but it was still just generalities...

The Curious Case of the 4

Painter always talks about how tough it is to get going when you only get spot minutes. With TKR it seems to be "spot opportunities" more than "spot minutes", but the end results look similar in that he's not able to get into any offensive flow when almost all the post opportunities are going to...

    SEC+

As PurdueDave mentioned above, ESPN is a little tricky about these. If you click on the ESPN+ feed, it won't be free with your cable subscription. Go down to the channels section, select secn+ and then the feed should be free for the game.

If you're talking about the tweet from the Purdue account, it can't mention unsigned recruits by name. Their wink and nod toward Catchings appears to be adding the "and others".

    NCAAT Bingo Card

Congrats to Coach Painter on becoming the overwhelming favorite to become the first coach to fill out his NCAAT loss bingo card. It used to be fun to joke that Self would fill out his card, and Bennett became another possibility after the loss to UMBC. However, there's now a new favorite; no...

    Still supporting CMP

It's going to be interesting to see how he reacts. He's grown so much through his failures in the past. That's a big reason why I've been a Painter supporter. I hope he has an honest evaluation of the continued losses in the NCAAT. Based on his comments this season about how breaking the press...

Coach Lutz back to the Big Dance

McCasland from North Texas has got to be one of the favorites for the Texas Tech opening, and he might have other options to move up if not TTU. If that does happen, Lutz to North Texas (moving to AAC next yr) would seem to be a very logical step for both parties.

    Offense Against the Press

Morton does that. Newman does that. Loyer does that. Did anyone other than Smith, and Jenkins when Smith was out, actually bring the ball across midcourt yesterday? It must be a coaching directive. Are the coaches so scared of those guys picking up the ball and getting trapped in the corner once...

Even coach Chris Collins was getting away with fouling our players.

Given his past lies, I imagine he'd claim he was defending himself from a vicious Fletch elbow and needed to get stitches because of it after the game: Collins lies about Pardon injury

    Sounds like

I believe one of the major roles of search firms now is to dig up any skeletons in the closet. It's entirely plausible that Bobkinski comes up with his list of top candidates and then involves the search firm to make sure there are no red flags. They also sometimes act as middlemen before the...

    Coach suggestion ?

Those are the two without HC experience that I've seen mentioned that intrigue me most. However, I think my top choice would be to try and replicate the Brohm hire with Traylor at UTSA or Helton at WKU. Similar to Brohm at WKU, both guys have won at a real high clip in their conferences (teams...

    Coach suggestion ?

He seems happy and in a good situation for him at KSU, and I wouldn't leave if I were him, but I think he's one of the guys you make say no.
