Does Loyer start for next year's team?

As has been consistently shown over the last 2 years, Loyer has a hard time on the offensive and defensive side of the ball when he goes up against athletic and stronger guards. He would definitely benefit from additional muscle in the weight room. However, I don't know if that solves the problem or not.

When he squares his shoulders, gets set and fires his shot, he can definitely be deadly from 3. However, last night showed again, when he drives to the basket, shoots off balance shots or floaters, or tries to create that this does not work for him. He is too slow to guard quick guards, and he really help us with rebounding (Smith probably out rebounds him 4 or 5 to 1 and he is 4 inches shorter).

He does have 2 years of experience, but with the more athletic guards, plus Heide and Colvin getting some experience this year, does Loyer even start for next year's team or will he be more of a 6th or 7th man on that team?

IU is 4-0 for the first time in the school's history and has a first-year head coach.

We need to take a hard look at what Curt Cignetti has done: coaching style, portal, recruiting, everything. He is said to be a perfectionist and a nitpicker. In last week's game vs UCLA, an IU db got an interception and had a little celebration on the field. Cignetti gave him a public arse-chewing when he got to the sideline.

Purdue football Purdue 0, Nebraska 0: HALFTIME THOUGHTS

Really, really weird game so far. If you're scoring at home (and that would be more scoring than this game has had) we have had:
  • Hudson Card completing a pass to himself for a loss of 7
  • Purdue has been called for six defensive pass interference calls.
  • Each team has had a TD called back on an offensive PI
  • Each team has straight up missed a field goal
  • Purdue has blocked two field goals
  • There have been 12 penalties for 129 yards combined.
  • Purdue is getting outgained 210-89
  • There are no turnovers
  • The teams are a combined 1 of 12 on third down (and Purdue was immediately sacked on the play after the conversion).

Question on Players Redshirting On Their Own

Are colleges obligated to continue to keep the player on the team and receive all the perks if a player declares he is redshirting without the school's approval?

In the past I would say this would hurt recruiting but with players bailing out on late season and/or Bowl games if a school chooses COULD they tell them to hit the road with today's Portal movements....I am wondering?

Purdue Out On Haralson, Mullins & Sisley...

We spent a lot of times on these in-state recruits and was hoping we capitalize on our national runner up season last year and land one of these guys. Sisley was the most likely but the "my dream loosier school" was just too strong.

The one and done, 5 stars like Haralson and Mullins most likely are getting too much NIL to come and play for Purdue.

Sounds like we are getting West and may have a good chance with Singleton. Williams-Adams probably won't happen. We need to get Singleton then we should be alright with the portal nowadays. CMP shuld change his pitch a bit so some of these elite kids would come.
Be honest but also creative.

Tomorrow

We need to see some adjustments.

We need to see Jenkins on the right edge. The do right by our guy and keep him here project is over. Madden is out and Sillah is terrible. It’s time to try to win games, and clearly Jenkins at edge is best. I hope Berglund or Davis or someone, anyone, is healthy and capable of playing a few snaps with Yanni. Set the edge. Stop waiting to be blocked at the 2nd level. Make a play. Let’s make a team throw and see what happens. Maybe a pick or two? A strip sack?

Offensively, right now we have a really really bad group of WRs with Edrine out and Smith, who we were counting on, probably never going to play a snap. But they’ve got to figure something out. Get Tibbs out of the slot. I was shocked when they broke camp with him there. Put Dixon Veal there or whoever has some quickness to get open for some quick throws to gain yardage and get into some sort of rhythm in the passing game. Klare is obviously good, use him. Not sure if Burhenn is playing, but if he is, scheme around your athletic TEs. Harrell dialed up some plays to the TE position last year, let’s try that again. We know we can run it, and that’s where it should all start. Harrell knows that I think.

I know this entire board is going to laugh at me, but I still don’t think this is the 1-11, worst team in the history of the world team that you all are saying it is. There are some real deficiencies personnel wise, and the coaches aren’t doing a good enough job. But I’m still holding out hope that they’ll improve.
