Time will tell if we do or don't? Carsen is one of my all time favorite Boilers, but Cox & Smith can get hot too. That team had Carsen Edwards, who put on a tourney performance of historical proportions. This team doesn't have a Carsen Edwards who can carry them.
I think the onus is on the team to find issues like this during the medical examinations at the combine.Agreed - and if Richardson knew he had lingering back problems…seems like that may void that contract he signed. Surely they asked health question during evaluations & contract negotiations.
Yes, but IU was also the only non-automatic bid team to not have a loss to an unranked opponent. Was IU the only non-automatic bid team to not have a win against a ranked opponent?
Thx Tex. Ready at the beach..Happy New Year, ladies and gentlemen. This evening, it's back to Big Ten conference play with the #20-ranked Purdue Boilermakers (9-4; 1-1) visiting Williams Arena in Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-5; 0-2). Tip is scheduled for approximately 8:00 pm (Eastern time) with television coverage on FOX Sports 1 Network (FS1). This will be the only regular season match-up for the schools this season. Purdue won the single match-up last season, 86-74 at home.

Projected Starting Line-ups:
Purdue - Trey Kaufman-Renn, Camden Heide, Myles Colvin, Fletcher Loyer, and Braden Smith
Minnesota - Parker Fox, Dawson Garcia, Mike Mitchell Jr., LuCye Patterson, and Femi Odukale

Both teams are coming off wins last Sunday entering this contest. Purdue defeated Toledo, 83-64, behind the strength of Braden Smith's 34 points and 12 assists, and Minnesota dispatched Morgan State at home, 90-68, led by Mike Mitchell Jr.'s 22 points. The Golden Gophers are looking for their first conference win, and this would be a good statement for them if they could pull the upset in a venue where Purdue has sometimes struggled.
Minnesota is led by 5th year senior Dawson Garcia, who started his career at Marquette with a stop at North Carolina before settling in with his third season for Minnesota. He is one of the better players in the conference and has caused plenty of problems in past games against Purdue. He has scored 18 or more points in five consecutive games, including 22 against Indiana in Bloomington. He is averaging 19.1 PPG on 50% shooting. Along side Garcia, Mike Mitchell Jr. also poses a threat, scoring 15 or more in three of his past four games. The senior guard has posted an average of 13.3 PPG on 56% shooting. The other two starters that Minnesota looks for some scoring are Lu'Cye Patterson (9.7 PPG) and Femi Odukale (5.1 PPG and 4.2 RPG). Parker Fox is not leaned on heavily, and most of his work is inside the arc, although he has hit double figures a couple of times.
KenPom ratings have Minnesota at 109th (163rd offensively and 90th defensively). The Golden Gophers have one of the slowest pace of play ratings - 360th in adjusted tempo. Purdue is at 27th overal (11th offensively and 70th defensively). Adjusted tempo has them at 303rd in the ratings for pace. Minnesota is scoring an average of 67.9 points on the season and give up a 29th best 63.9 points.
Look for the Boilers on defense to focus on Garcia and Mitchell. Garcia is fourth in the conference with 19.1 points per game, and 11th with 7.4 rebounds. The fifth-year senior is shooting from deep at the second-best clip of his career, 36.7%, on a career-high 3.8 attempts a game. He has the highest true shooting percentage of his career. According to Matt Painter - "It's not like one guy's gonna guard him. Do a good job keeping him off the glass, not letting him have an easy post-up, not letting him have a wide-open 3. He's gonna score some points, there's no doubt about that. Just make him earn it."
As for the difficulty with Mitchell and the supporting cast - "He can make step-back 3s with people on him. Just can't let him have a couple step-in 3s. Limit his good looks, even though he'll make tough ones. With the other guys, you've gotta do your best with keeping them in front of you. Just can't let them live in the paint. I think it's gonna be important for us to contain the dribble and, as a team, keep the ball out of the paint. And then not allow second-chance opportunities."
A recurring theme for Purdue on defense. Again, Purdue has to find a way to limit Minnesota from damaging possessions in the paint or second chance opportunities off the offensive glass. As for the offense, the Boilers really need to execute, and they should be in good shape. However, if they get a little careless or lose focus and have some turnovers, that's where Minnesota could cause some issues. In addition, let's see if Colvin, Heide, Harris, Cox, and Furst can provide a little more scoring production.
The boilers have yet to prove they can be a solidly consistent executing team on the road....can they take a step toward that tonight? Any road win in the conference is a good win.....we shall see this evening.
Boiler up, my friends.

Yeah Paul George’s was way, way worse and he came back fine, though it took over a year.Yep. A broken bone is about best case scenario given how ugly it looked. The recovery is much easier than a ligament tear and shouldn't have any lasting consequences.
Agreed - and if Richardson knew he had lingering back problems…seems like that may void that contract he signed. Surely they asked health question during evaluations & contract negotiations. And sadly, no one will give them anything for Richardson, who suckered Ballard into a huge contract. Ballard should have his office door locked immediately.
Would love to hang onto that punter - he was the lone bright spot this season.Yes and if you are referring to the Purdue guys left in the portal the majority of them just entered a week ago or less so it’s hard telling where they’ll end up but most likely they won’t be coming back to Purdue after entering this late. Lewis and Crimmins have been in it for weeks now so they could be a maybe on a return. Brown just entered a couple days ago. Green and Smith probably had to wait on their checks to clear for the year before bolting to the portal. M’ba and Wingfield recently entered due to the new JUCO rule allowing JUCO guys to play more years in college.
Remaining portal guys
DL - Damarjhe Lewis
P - Keelan Crimmins
DB - Nyland Green
WR - CJ Smith
DL - Jefferey M’Ba
OL - DJ Wingfield
DB - Anthony Brown
I don't think my ex knows how to get to Minnesota. All my ex's live in Texas ... and share a condo
They're both athletic and can jump, neither has good enough handles to get his own shot or create problems for the defense with dribble penetration. If Heide or Colvin can’t get their own shot it will be a long season. Both are athletic, so they need to play for us to be really successful. No rebounds is a joke as well.
Do you think Painter would have a 1 on 1 with Smith and say "What do you need me to get you from the portal?". (meaning, what does Painter need to go get in the portal to makes Smiths job easier and build a NC team)I think Purdue will have to put together a competitive offer, just like they did this year. I think Braden recognizes what he has at Purdue and wouldn’t look to go elsewhere unless the money were so much greater that he couldn’t say no.
This is all based on the assumption that Purdue has a decent season. If they’re not winning, Braden may be tempted to go somewhere where he has a chance to make it back to the final four.

That team had Carsen Edwards, who put on a tourney performance of historical proportions. This team doesn't have a Carsen Edwards who can carry them.We have arguably more talent than the 2018-19 elite 8 team which won a share of the Big Ten title.
thought you might like thisBut, one thing we can all agree on is that Whoopi Goldberg does resemble a warthog...yes?
Yup. Which is what maks this season so great.Yet Indinia is still the worst program overall in history: IU football first D-1 school to lose 700 games
True. But don't tell anyone......Well you came out pretty good by living on Longboat!![]()
Indeed. Oregon looks good. But we will see how they shake out in the B1G schedule. This has been an ongoing problem for the Big Ten. Over the years the amount of elite talent has started to drop off. A lot of it going to the SEC. The thing about the Big Ten is that coaches are good at game planning against other Big Ten schools. It isn't like Big Ten schools aren't good, they just aren't elite. Like the past two years there was Purdue. There have been great years throughout the 2010s where you had Michigan State who was nationally elite. Ohio State. Purdue. Wisconsin. Illinois a couple of years. Indiana a couple of years. Maryland a couple of years. Michigan. Just don't have that elite talent and nationally elite teams. Oregon, UCLA and Michigan State look like the best. Michigan and Purdue right behind that or even in that group. There are a lot of solid teams but I think it’s fair to say that the Big Ten looks like it lacks elite teams at the top.
Nothing. It just points out the Big Ten finished that regular season with 4 ranked teams out of 14. As of today, Big has 5 ranked teams out of 18. Note: I agreed, this isn't the 2018 B10.What does that have to do with unequal schedules?
Well you came out pretty good by living on Longboat!Think a couple of my ex-wives live there.....
I fixed it for you.The Barn has hidden, "EVIL" spirits ....
Nobody knows, but consider this: Braden could have went to a school other than Westfield...perhaps a team that would be even better than Westfield had Braden left, but he didn't. He stayed at Westfield and broke his foot. He already had a scholly from Purdue and could have stayed out the season to heal for Purdue. Instead he had a screw placed inside his foot and rested it hopeful he could play in the sectional a few weeks away. There were no guarantees, but he wanted to win Westfields first sectional. He never played until sectional and he was in the toughest sectional in the state. Well, Westfield won the sectional beating Fishers and Carmel and another team (Noblesville?) and he put on quite a show with some help from Cam Haffner (whose dad was in the NBA) who came out the third quarter taking some "iffy" shots that he made and really was key in the Carmel game in particular.I think Purdue will have to put together a competitive offer, just like they did this year. I think Braden recognizes what he has at Purdue and wouldn’t look to go elsewhere unless the money were so much greater that he couldn’t say no.
