Toledo at Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Still @ 27 in KenPom (10th offensively) - have been hovering in top 10 for the non-conference.....yeah, it's the defensive efficiency (73rd now) that is the bigger problem - primarily getting worked on the offensive glass and giving up transition points when the turnover bug hits. For the glass half-full guys (sorry can't help it folks.... :) ), there is some light when the newcomers gel more with the system, but Purdue is still going to live and die with trying to keep the paint cleaner and how well they can gang rebound, IMO.

The more help they get with scoring punch gives them a little more margin for error......really interested how they execute on the road tomorrow.....in the hated Barn, as DP pointed out.

Happy New Year, folks!

Happy New Year. The “area for improvement” on defense is due to being Zach-less. Although Zach was not a big time shot blocker, he prevented a lot of shots from being taken near the rim once opponents blew by Purdue’s perimeter/ wing defenders. Of course he made Purdue’s rebounding a strength.

Never knew he didn’t let them play. Had plenty of grade school friends go to AHS and some of my cousins went to BNI.

Thought by the 80’s they were playing in football and basketball?
Bishop Grutka passed away in the late 80s or early 90s. Not sure if it was towards the end of his life or if the new Gary Diocese Bishop allowed the 2 schools to schedule regular season games against each other in all sports.

The ‘80 or Gary regional between the 2 schools was a classic. With Purdue’s Jim Bullock and IU’s Dan Dakich on Andrean. And Bishop Noll had the McKinney brothers. During that time it was a shame that the 2 schools could not play each other more regularly.

Purdue played at a slow pace and had 83 points, a 57.1% eFG% and a 123.2 offensive efficiency. There are a lot of things you can complain about. Purdue's offense was just fine.

IU did not deserve to be in CFP. Great article by USA Today

A post from you about the college football playoffs? Or even an off topic post about Purdue sports? Or any sports? Nope -that never happens from you.
Never? There are several in this very thread about strength of schedule not being factored in sufficiently by the selection committee.

Is your new obsession completely destroying what little reasoning ability you have left after the ravages of TDS?

Amish versus FEMA

As always, truth is somewhere in between. This article is from red state, a politically conservative group. A simple google search will indicate permanent or semi permanent housing is a last resort for fema compared to getting temporary housing. The 4 houses mentioned were only on private land in that county. 50 houses were made available on public or government for that county. Awesome that Amish built the houses. No doubt fema is wasting money, but context remains as important now as in any time and doing your own research is more important than ever because so many "news sources" have agendas and they expect readers to just read their stuff and take it as the truth.
Why don't lefty chest thumper ever point out that CNN or MSNBC is the source of information since it would also likely be slanted?

Toledo at Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Toledo has a 300+ ranked defense and we looked poor against them. I think since this was a get right game at home against an average at best opponent, that we should have made a concerted effort to get everyone going on offense to help get some confidence and maybe a bit of mojo for them as we enter the conference season.
We know what the “big 3” can do. Run some stuff to try to jump start the rest of the guys. Somehow need to figure a way to get some contributions from others or this could be a long year.

IU did not deserve to be in CFP. Great article by USA Today

I think this proves what I've been saying all along. 12 is too many. IU proved they didn't belong against Notre Dame. As did Tennessee. As did SMU. As has Alabama and South Carolina. Cut it back to 8. Power conference champions, top g5 champ, and a few at large. No more than one at large from any conference. Should have been the following.

Oregon
Georgia
Clemson
Arizona State
Boise State
Ohio State
Texas
Notre Dame

Would suck for Penn State but they lost to Ohio State and Oregon both so they did not deserve to get in as a 3rd place Big Ten team. This would eliminate so much unnecessary and generally bad football we've seen to date in these playoffs. Clemson and Boise might still get smoked but as conference champs they earned their way in. As we've seen, you can't just assume any conference deserves 3-4 teams because of their track record in prior years.
Swap Penn St and Ohio State in the 8 team playoff. PSU finished second in the BIG, played in the championship game.

SEC Hoops

Every top half sec team is almost all seniors/covid seniors. Probably makes a large difference. Hopefully regresses to the mean some next year
What teams are the top half? About 2/3 to 3/4 of the team top 5 scorers are SR. There are not all senior/covid sr or even close. Ark has one SR as a top five scorer; 1 FR, 2 SO, 1 JR. Fla and Ala have mixed SR's and SO/FR. Ok, Tenn, Aub, Ky, Tx, Miss and TAM fall into the predominant SR top five scorers.

SEC has not started conf play. If they had play 1 or 2 conf games like the BIG then SEC would not dominate the rankings.

Herschel Walker: Ambassador to the Bahamas

It was too bad that Bishop Grutka made sure Bishop Noll and Andrean did not play each other during the regular season during those days. Not sure if his reason. The rivalry in sports between the 2 schools could have been epic.

Could this be a new obsession for you for the new year, moving ahead of your severe TDS?

Here are two new year's resolutions for you.

- Learn to count to 10.
- Gain approval as a clownpants wearing IU fan from the Purdue forum.

I think with a lot of hard work and repetition you can conquer the first.
A post from you about the college football playoffs? Or even an off topic post about Purdue sports? Or any sports? Nope -that never happens from you. Almost everyone gets salty now and then but you? Never substance— always off topic.

So for me? It is currently a 12 team playoff and clearly the bottom four were beaten soundly (and similarly).

In the current 12 team format an 11-1 team from the second best conference, and one with no marquee wins but no bad losses is in every single time.

If you think the playoffs should be contracted? Sure; that’s a legit point of view, but you’re probably going to be disappointed because they’re far more likely to expand the CFP to 16 teams than contract it.

Women BB at Iowa

It will be interesting to see who plays with who. I still think they both will be on the court together more times than not.

Some of it will depend on who they bring in from the portal. They really need a couple shooters/scorers. A go to person. Something they haven't had for a while now.

Does anyone know if there is a Katie Gearlds Radio Show w/Tim Newton this year? I've looked for it but only find links to prior year shows.
Yeah good point, we've missed that go to person since Lasha left. Sure, she wasn't an all american, but she was able to get a bucket on her own here and there to release some pressure for our O. Sometimes a player like that could turn around a team. What does that 22' look like without her? Probably not 19-11.

CKG NEEDS that portal go to player next season.

I've seen links posted on Twitter before for the weekly shows.. I think they've been on Facebook as well?

We need.......................

Must have not slept well if you wake up and that is your first thought🤣

Can you imagine what is running through Painter's brain during a season 24/7?

In all seriousness, you are 100% correct. Those guys have to make an impact even if they aren’t scoring. Can't be out there for cardio.

LOL.
Up checking cows for heat at 4 am ......so no, that wasn't my first thought.....which was "that wind is colder than.....". 🥶🥶

IU did not deserve to be in CFP. Great article by USA Today

Pretty pathetic at 11:57 you posted on a Purdue forum…. And then edited it.

Why you so obsessed lol. Like herbstreit said there is deserving (iu did deserve it) and then there is the better teams. I’m not convinced indiana is not better than other teams not in the playoffs, maybe I’ll feel different if ND smokes Georgia tomorrow. 99% of Indiana friends I know acknowledge it was a fun season and they are able to enjoy the ride of a fortuitous schedule. It’s you 1% that can’t accept the he unbiased and factual stats that show you weren’t that great and spending NYE here for inexplicable reasons.
IU was ranked #8 by the CFP committee in the final poll and the committee had all of the factual and unbiased metrics at their disposal to determine their final rankings. #8 IU was humbled by #6 Ohio State and #5 Notre Dame…IU is clearly not at their level. #7 Tennessee was also humbled by #6 Ohio State. Maybe the top 6 teams in the final rankings by the CFP rankings are the only great teams for this year. Regardless, IU proved to be a really good football team this year and their final ranking of #8 by the CFP before the tournament started is looking to be pretty accurate.

IU did not deserve to be in CFP. Great article by USA Today

A Purdue grad is stating that we should flat out ignore the objective numerical data? You really think that ND was playing backup players when IU cut it to ten and had a two point conversion pending and a minute left? You are flat out inaccurate.

It was 27-17. I’ll even give you a link as proof:

And back to my question; name those three teams that you think were more deserving than IU, SMU, and Clemson (and while you’re at it, name a 4th for Az St, who is also ranked below IU in the CFP).

Name them!
