Great read here on Bryson's decision to play at IPFW. Thing I got most out of this was when he decided to transfer, he thought he would be highly recruited by several major programs. When he only received mid-major offers, he was humbled yet again. In hope this kid finished out his career strong and helps get that team to the NCAA tournament.

I'm kind of surprised no high-major was willing to take a chance on him when you consider the Penn State's or Rutgers or fill in the blanks of the world. Humbling indeed.

I think this is a good decision for Bryson. He'll have the full support and then some from the IPFW coaching staff and the fanbase. I think he'll be able to blossom there. I wish him all the best and thank him for the 2 years he gave us.

I enjoyed watching Bryson when he was a Boiler, he always played very hard! I wish him the best of luck in the future!

He still possesses very good speed and quickness, as well as strength to finish through contact at the rim. So I agree that it is a little surprising if no high-"ish" major programs wanted him, even to have in a reserve role.

If he continues to learn how to share the ball in an offensive attack (aka "good Bryson", as some would say this past season) and make good decisions, he could be a very good addition for IPFW.

It's not always a piece of cake to take on a multi-year scholarship transfer with short notice - i.e. you pretty much have to have an open scholarship waiting for someone to come take it last second - and we're not talking 1 year transfers which allows much great flexibility.

For example, how many multi-year scholarship transfers have we had in the last 5, 10 years?

I wish him the best. Still a little surprised Matt couldn't find 10 minutes a game for him in some type of defensive specialist role. He was special in the home IU game.

The problem with high major transfers are other high majors dont want them because they want to be handed a starting role

Good point. Big difference with 5th year guys.

Wasn't he barred from going to another BIG school?

Yeah, I should have used non B1G schools, but just threw out some poor high major D1 schools off the top of my head (naturally, B1G schools).

He will do well at home...he is a family and friend motivated kind of kid.

I also wish him well...great kid and is a bulldog on the court.

At IPFW he will be able to score at will and be a big part of the team.

Go B. Scott!

Thanks for your efforts at Purdue!

Scott will do okay at IPFW....IF....their coach has no discipline and lets him run wild and do what he wants. Otherwise, he'll be the same player he was at Purdue.

Sounds like his brother is doing quite well at Indiana State.

I'd think a player of Bryson's talent would be a focal point at a school like IPFW. He will probably be in a featured offensive role, compared to at a Big Ten school or especially a talented Purdue team where the PG needs to focus on running the offense and getting others involved. Good move for him if that's what he's looking for. His defense should make him an all-around tough matchup in that league too. Looking forward to watching whatever IPFW games might be on TV.

I also wish him well, thought he would land at a MAC school like CMU and play w/ Seth Dugan.

I think B1G rules say he has to pay his own way if he transfers to another B1G school.
Not any more. But the school from which the kid transfers can put reasonable restrictions on the move. Generally schools don't allow a transfer within conference for obvious reasons.

Yeah....to add a little more color, here is an excerpt from an ESPN-related story involving the Jarrod Uthoff transfer from Wisconsin to Iowa:

________________________

The Big Ten altered its transfer rule within the conference, starting with the 2011-12 season. The new rule allows transfers to receive a grant-in-aid from their new school, but reduces their remaining athletic eligibility by a year. That penalty could have been waived if Wisconsin did not block him [Uthoff] from Big Ten schools.

Previously, once a Big Ten player signed a grant-in-aid agreement at one Big Ten school, he or she could transfer to a second Big Ten school, but would not be allowed to receive any financial aid. The new rule does not put as great a financial penalty on the player transferring.
_________________________

Uthoff enrolled at Iowa, paid his way for a season and sat out a year (2012-2013 season) from what I understand....this was more of an extreme case than most, but it got plenty of media attention back in 2012 when it all shook out.

Hey Pit bull,

This one's for you.

Kidding aside, I would like to see Bryson do well.

Thanks Heller and Purdue Grad in TX. I haven't kept up with those changes.
