Aaron Fine Commits as Preferred Walk-On

what is a preferred walk on anyway?
"No you're not getting a scholy, but we think you are "special"???

Essentially, guaranteed a roster spot but no athletic aid at this time....it's an opportunity to earn a scholarship down the road, though.

Not that long ago, a preferred walk-on for multiple seasons for Purdue earned a scholarship and played a key role for the Boilers - none other than Grady Eifert. Now, that doesn't happen frequently.....but....you never know for sure.

Do they get to join the training table now?

With NIL, who cares if a player is on scholarship or are a preferred walk-on? I am only interested if the cheerleaders are doing fine.

You're practice fodder. That's it....some have been good enough to get a school their senior season.
True, but there is (or was) a practice squad that the team scrimmages with. And walk on's were a step above them. (really nothing) That's the reason I asked if walk on's get to eat with the team now.
Best player in our dorm made that practice squad. (this was the early 80's)
Those guys got the crap beat out of them.

Yep. And AOC. And Mockabee.
AOC...what a story! Guy is like 8th on depth chart, a real afterthought. Becomes a STARTER in the Big10, albeit a pretty depleted team at the time. Sets all kinds of records in his time here, including a stunning bowl win, while throwing to less than #1 receivers.
Now, Raiders think so highly of him, they not only start him, but don't draft another highly prized QB, despite all the experts saying the Raiders needed one.
Deep in college depth chart to NFL starter...his head is prob still spinning. What a story!
